Ancient Greece.

In History we have been studying the Ancient Greeks. We acquired Greek resources from York to exemplify Greek life.

amphora.jpg (26391 bytes) Amphora. It was used to store olive oil, wine and vinegar.
dishes.jpg (38740 bytes) Dishes. A mortarium was a large course pottery bowl used for grinding and mixing herbs, nuts and spices.
shield.jpg (35141 bytes) Shield.  The shield was large, curved and either circular or oval. The cuirass (body armour) was made from lightweight leather or padded linen. The greaves protected the shins and lower thighs.
sword.jpg (22431 bytes) Sword. A short bronze or iron sword was used for slashing rather than stabbing.
vase.jpg (37130 bytes) Vase. The best pottery was made in Athens in the potters quarter called the Kerameikos. The clay was of very high quality and was reddish brown.
