Martha and the Clock

When Hoyland's new clock was unveiled, outside the town hall, Class 6 were invited to come and provide some entertainment. They were asked to perform our traditional mummers play (Martha and the Milton Monster), as part of the opening ceremony. This production features many traditional local characters from Hoyland legend and folklore, such as: Highwayman Nick and George Dawes. However, the central character is Martha - the heroine of the story. She travels through time defeating unsavoury characters from Hoyland's past. In real life, Martha Knowles donated the original town hall clock - which is why Class 6 were invited to perform for the busy, Saturday morning, Hoyland shoppers.
