Parents', Teachers' and Friends' Association

What does PTFA stand for?
Parents' Teachers' and Friends' Association.

Who can be a member?
All parents/guardians of pupils at the school are automatically members of the Association.
Any other interested person is also encouraged to join.

How often do you meet?
Ordinary meetings take place on the second Monday of each half term. There is also an Annual
General Meeting in the Autumn Term, and meetings of the fundraising sub-committee take place
regularly.

What do you do?
Our main function is to involve parents in school life.
Of course we raise funds. We have been able to support bids from: the RE department for artifacts; the Technology department for a door, dust extractor, hand mixers and jig saws; the Maths department; the PE department for football strip, rugby strip and new cricket sweaters; the Careers department for curtains; the Geography department for a computer trolley; the Music department for keyboards; the English department for transport costs to enable students to make a trip to a Shakespeare production. In addition we have been able to pay for transport for a Gliding trip which enabled students to complete their personal challenge as part of their Trident programme and we have also provided some funds which helped make sure a recent German Exchange visit went ahead as planned, etc. Most recently we have helped raise several thousand pounds towards our Technology College Sponsorship.

At our regular meetings we discuss a variety of school issues. Our meetings are attended by parents of pupils throughout the school, and by a significant number of interested teachers, not least the Headteacher. The meetings have also become an opportunity to discuss matters of general educational interest and concern. We hold social evenings. Quiz nights, fashion shows, treasure hunts, etc. all provide entertainment and raise funds at the same time. Perhaps most importantly we talk to each other. The PTFA is a valuable means of sharing problems, raising queries, getting support, making friends.

Why should I join?
You should join us - if you want to become involved in your child's school life.

YOU SHOULD JOIN US!

All parents/guardians of Year 7 pupils will receive an invitation to the first meeting of the
PTFA in the Autumn Term. Please find the time to come.

We understand that you may be hesitant to come along on your own to meet a group of strangers in an unfamiliar place. Please contact Jackie French via the School if this is the case. We have a number of members who are more than happy to meet you at the door, and some who can even provide lifts if necessary. There is no need to stay at home if really you don't want to.

You can contact any of the people below for more information by telephoning the school. They
would be delighted to welcome you.
