On Tuesday 11th December 2003 Wellgate children took part in an
athletics tournament. Wellgate school managed to win the tournament and brought
a fantastic cup. Well done to the following children who took part: Sonny Taylor,
Jake Taylor, Shannon Vardy, Paige Ellis, Francessca Cawkwell, Poppy Tuck and
Rachel Royston who are all year 4 and Alexander Drummond and Joe Taylor who
are both year 3.
Hockey Tournament for Year 5 and 6
On Monday 17th November 2003 Wellgate children took part in a hockey
tournament at Dorothey Hymans. The children were Matthew Hilton, Joshua Brook,
Emma pendlebury, Oliver Branchflower, Hannah Proctor, Amy Watson, Jake Blackburn,
Michael Ibbottson and Sam Smith. Wellgate reached the final with Birkwood Primary
school but after full time, extra time and penalties the two teams could not be
seperated, so they both were crowned champions. Well done to both teams.
Athletics tournament for Year 5 and 6
On Wednesday 19th November 2003 Wellgate children took part in an
athletics tournament at Darton High school. The boys team who finished 1st were :
Barnsley Schools Cross Country
On Wednesday 1st October 2003 Year 5 and Year 6 children competed in the
Barnsley Schools Cross Country Competition. There were 43 children representing Wellgate
which was the largest number from any of the schools. Year 5 boys did exceptionally well
with Matthew Semley finishing 1st, Ashley Smith finishing 4th, Cristo Cicero finishing 6th
, Ashley Holling finishing 8th and the year 5 boys team finishing 1st overall. The year 6
boys team came 2nd overall and both Year 5 & 6 girls team did very well. The children were a
credit to the school with very good behaviour and sportsmanship.
